Shan Tong, also known by the stage names Cu (无水醋酸铜), is a researcher and engineer working at the intersection of auditory neuroscience and clinical psychiatry, as well as a music producer. She is currently a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Stanford University School of Medicine, where her research focuses on the mechanisms of speech communication and auditory processing. She received her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Rochester and her M.S. in Biostatistics from Northwestern University. Grounded in multiple peer-reviewed journal publications, her research is dedicated to translating fundamental auditory science into practical applications for hearing health and speech communication. Beyond academia, Shan Tong has more than a decade of experience in music composition and production, and is active in the fields of indie music and video game soundtracks. Her representative works include the original soundtracks for the indie games Firework and Sanfu (三伏), the award-winning piece K’rye (Those Beyond), and the album Among Us. By day, she decodes how sound is processed in the brain; by night, she reconstructs how sound is experienced. Weaving together scientific rigor and artistic intuition, Shan Tong has forged a distinctive and continuously evolving path between research and creation.
